Australia’s communications regulator has expanded its enforcement against illegal online gambling – see more details:

• The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has asked internet service providers to block 12 additional illegal gambling websites. The action follows investigations that found the sites were operating in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. The blocked sites include 7Signs, Donbet, Duospin, Freshbet, Slots Gem, Jacks Club, Lucky Start, Spinrise, Vinyl Casino and Wildsino.
• The latest enforcement also includes Chromabet.org and Pointsbetz.com, which were found to be imitating the licensed ChromaBet and PointsBet brands. The ACMA said these websites were operating illegally in Australia. This forms part of its ongoing ACMA gambling websites enforcement programme.
• Since the first website blocking request in November 2019, 1,751 illegal gambling and affiliate websites have been blocked. More than 230 illegal gambling services have also withdrawn from the Australian market since strengthened enforcement began in 2017. These figures highlight the continued focus on removing illegal operators.
• The ACMA reminded consumers that websites appearing legitimate may still operate without a licence. It warned that players using illegal services may not have access to important customer protections and could lose their money. Australians can check whether a wagering operator is licensed through the official register.
• The regulator also encourages consumers to report illegal gambling websites and provides information on how to protect themselves from unlicensed operators. An ACMA statement said: “Even if a service looks legitimate, it’s unlikely to have important customer protections.
