The  GCGRA (General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has named Ciarán Carruthers as its new chief executive. The appointment comes as the UAE continues to shape its commercial gaming rules.  The GCGRA CEO joins from Crown Resorts in Australia.

• Carruthers brings experience from the resort and gaming sectors, including senior roles in Australia and Macau. He most recently served as CEO of Crown Resorts. His background includes work across operations, licensing and regulatory change.
• GCGRA said the appointment supports its work on a clear and responsible regulatory framework for commercial gaming in the UAE. Carruthers has also worked on responsible gaming standards during his career. The GCGRA CEO will now work with licensees and government partners.
• At Crown Resorts, Carruthers helped return the business to full licensing suitability. He also previously held senior operational roles at Wynn Macau. That experience gives the GCGRA CEO a strong link to regulated casino markets.
• Jim Murren, chairman of GCGRA, said: “We are pleased to welcome Ciarán to the GCGRA leadership team.” He added that Carruthers brings the experience needed to lead the authority. Murren said the focus remains on building commercial gaming regulation in the UAE.
